The Legacy: A success Story
World Services for the Blind formally known as Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind up until the name change in 1989 began in 1947 with a goal to see the blind and visually impaired live a meaningful existence and build a new life. WSB began as a rehabilitation center preparing people for employment and it is still that today, seventy-five years later. We have long stood by the foundational principles and structure that Roy Kumpe, our founder, put in place. We prepare visually impaired clients with life skills necessary to sustain independence and move on to a vocational training program of their choice learning a trade they can make a career out of. We also offer online training courses to students that qualify. People come from all over the world to attend our programs. Not only do they attend our programs but several will take our Assistive Technology training program and go back to their part of the world and teach others. Roy Kumpe (pictured) leaves quite a legacy behind as we have continued to build on Roy’s dream and have helped over 17,000 visually impaired people from our State, our Nation and our World. The ripples of that work continue to impact many more that we will never know about. Our history has been well preserved in the web exhibit Leaving a Legacy: A Success Story created by Center of Arkansas History and Culture. Click to learn more…
